Katsina settles N2.5 billion exam fees

The Katsina State Government on Monday stated that it has disbursed a combined N2.5billion as students’ fees for public examinations including West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), NECO and NABTEB, since the inception of Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s administration in 2015 in the past 5 years

The Commissioner for Education, Pro. Badamasi Lawal Charanchi, told reporters at a briefing in his office, that the achievements recorded by the current administration since its inception needed to be reported.

The Commissioner said 52,285 candidates from the state sat for NECO in 2019 of which 44,408 scored 5 credits and above in all subjects representing 84.9%, while 33,682 representing 75.84% scored 5 credits including English and Mathematics.

On WAEC examination, the commissioner disclosed that 74,138 sat for the examination out of which 59,928representing 79.4% scored 5 credits and above in all subjects while 41,667 representing 70.7% scored 5 credits including English and Mathematics

While describing the performances of the state as ”a grade A achievements”, the Commissioner maintained that the education sector has recorded tremendous achievements in the present dispensation compared to the PDP administration in the state

He said” If you compare 2015 till date, that is 5 years of examination including the three public examination under review, Katsina state had a total of 319,374 number of candidates who sat for them. A total of 217,835 representing 62.8% scored 5 credits and above, while 138,074 representing 63.3% including English and mathematics

He said” in the 5 years tenure of the present administration, 319,314 representing 68% which is B plus scored 5 credits and above in all subjects while 63.3% scored 5 credits and above including English and Mathematics”

He further compared the administration of Shema from 2008 and 2014 with the present administration of Masari which took off in 2015, saying that 417,576 candidates sat for the public examinations in the period under review for Shema out of which 79,044 representing 18% scored 5 credits and abov
